It's the most wonderful time of the year 🎵 I absolutely love winter and the holiday season so I have been spending money on gifts and decorations with my reliable income! Yes that includes games. I couldn't resist. (Cough.)
This month at the end of the month/year, I will also be looking back at all the games completed this year and writing about my top ten. Since I'm really indecisive this will probably be torture to narrow down, but I think having an online blog thing has kept me accountable and really helped me eat through more games than I would have played otherwise!

Looking back on the year
About the backlog...
So I don't know if it increased or stayed the same, but it probably didn't really decrease... Okay who am I kidding, I continue to stuff games in my computer and Switch like the internet's going to end. I don't really view it as something negative though, since I enjoy having a lot of games ready at my disposal to play. So even if I did buy games in bundles etc. I don't think that an increased backlog is something bad. In the first place, I use the word "backlog" but basically it's my treasure trove!
About systems...
This year, I probably used my Switch the most, followed by my trusty Vita and smartphone, then PC. Usually PC would reign supreme, but work means that I usually want to lie in bed or on my bean bag instead of sitting at a desk for another X hours. The smartphone games coming out recently are really good and much more of a "game experience" than five years ago, but mostly I'm just an addict to a few games that I play daily. Ni no Kuni's Japanese MMO was also a lot of fun for a while before I fell off of it. As usual, the Vita is my obscure visual novel engine and Japan-only game system; and Switch is my favourite system that has ever existed.
About games...
I played a lot of the classic "(free) horror game" genre recently. (Kinoko-nun was horrifying.) Lots of scary games this year too, even though I get scared really easily. At least I managed to get through them unlike the Five Night's at Freddy's collection which I had to finish by watching someone stream because I was too afraid (2017 or 2018?). Also, I've been going through a lot of Japanese games recently, even more than usual. Being fluent in another language -- especially one that arguably spawned the world of games before I was born -- is really good for this kind of stuff. (Plus, English localizations of Japanese games usually suck pretty badly.)
About me...
Honestly I was busier this year than I have been my entire life. Not only did I enter my final year of grad school (and graduate on the 20th!) but I also started a full-time job, so being full time student + full time worker really murdered my time for games. Some of the newer releases like Inscryption and Unpacking I ended up dozing off watching streams about... Anyway, next year after I graduate, I'll probably have some more time to play. I think one of my goals will be to regularly play Ring Fit or Fitness Boxing or even Just Dance or something because I still need to lose like 10 pounds (and if I want to feel good about myself, 20). Also, I am seriously considering finding some kind of gaming group or something just so I can play co-op games because I'm seriously getting a craving for It Takes Two. No one around me is a vidya gaymer unfortunately...
