Monthly Games Roundup | May 2022

Storm

Updated: Jun 1, 2022

It is once again my birthday month, so I'm gonna play what I want and play what I like (even more than usual). Also, Golden Week sales were too tasty for me to resist, so sorry but my backlog continues to grow. To be honest, I like having a backlog...

Currently Playing Games (Carryover to June)

  • Harukanaru toki no naka de Ultimate

  • Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

  • Mermaid Gothic

  • Ni no Kuni for Switch

Games Completed May 2022

  • Final Fantasy IV Interlude

  • Backpack Hero

So this month a couple of things are "new". Halfway through April, I figured out a really nice way to organize my gaming tasks every day through a Trello board. So recently I've been sorting out my progress with Trello and making myself proceed through more content than before, which I appreciate greatly. You see, the issue is that after I get home from a full day's work, I always want to lie around and do nothing but watch streams and sleep off the stress. But having a bunch of goals clearly outlined and broken down into doable chunks really makes it easy to get through this dungeon, or explore that area before I go to bed.

A second "new" thing is that I dug out my PS Vita TV again! Like I mentioned last month, my recent tendency is to play games on a big screen, i.e. the TV I got for sub-200 dollars last Black Friday. I love my Vita to death, and recently figured out how to stream it to my PC monitor, but it just doesn't beat the "native" Vita TV display in 1080i on my TV screen. I might have to find a way to play more PSP/Vita games now.

One final and important "new thing"... My Steam Deck arrived early in the month! I lost count of how many hours I spent fiddling with ProtonOS this month. Which means, yes, I made like no progress in the backlog but I don't really mind LOL

Final Fantasy IV Interlude

So this one was rather jarring since I went from the 3D Remake version (Steam) to the Anniversary Edition (PSP), where all the sprites are back to their pixelly selves. The mechanics and overworld are pretty much identical, but battle screens were different, which took some time to get used to. However, Interlude was A LOT easier than the Steam version (which I played on hard). I never thought I'd say that turn-based RPGs are difficult, but FFIII and IV are probably actually really difficult. Anyway, for the story: it was around 4 hours, maybe 5 if you stretch it, and I took my time. It is also super abrupt and opens up many questions that just don't get answered. I am assuming that it's merely a prologue for The After Years, which I will be playing the 3D version of, but at the same time it was pretty jarring. (Interlude takes place 1 year after the end of the main story and leads to the discovery of Rosa's pregnancy. Rosa's son, Theodore [when i heard this name i cried], is the main character of The After Years.)

FFIV The After Years (3D Remake)

Kind of stuck here... Made like no progress at all.

Backpack Hero (Steam)

My productivity has gone down the drain. When I say productivity I mean gaming productivity. I keep playing Backpack Hero with my Kickstarter key instead of playing FFIV TAY. Help me, it's so much fun. Beat it several times but can't stop playing...

Thanks for reading this far!
